To keep your pet and your home flea free, why not use a flea treatment that kills even more fleas? Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO not only kills adult fleas on your pet, but prevents flea eggs and flea larvae developing in your home.
Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO is a vet strength, spot-on medicine that is ideal for busy families. It protects both your home and your pet, allowing you to get the job done in one.
Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO is known as a ‘combination’ flea treatment. This means it contains a combination of active ingredients. Combination flea treatments target multiple flea life stages, so you can protect your pet and your home with just one product.
Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO contains fipronil and S-methoprene. Fipronil is an insecticide that kills the adult fleas. S-methoprene is an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), which affects flea eggs and flea larvae, preventing them from developing further.
95% of an untreated flea infestation is in the environment. This is where you will find the flea eggs, flea larvae and flea pupae. Using a combination flea treatment like Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO allows you to target these developmental stages of the flea life cycle, both on your pet and in your home.
Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO works on your pet and in your home.
The product is non-systemic, meaning the active ingredients are not absorbed into the bloodstream. Parasites are killed when they come into contact with the active ingredients. This could be on the skin’s surface or in your pet’s coat.
When an adult flea, tick or biting louse comes into contact with fipronil it quickly affects the nervous system. This causes hyper-excitation and death. This is why there sometimes appears to be ‘more fleas’ on your pet after using a fipronil based flea treatment. The parasite briefly becomes more active before being killed.
As an Insect Growth Regulator, S-methoprene works differently. IGRs mimic a parasite’s own growth hormones, tricking their body into thinking it can’t develop to the next stage of the life cycle. As the parasite is unable to develop further, it ultimately dies.
S-methoprene is able to work both on your pet and in your home because any skin cells or hair shed by your pet are coated in S-methoprene. S-methoprene will affect the flea eggs and flea larvae in the environment, helping break the flea life cycle.
The adult female flea absorbs S-methoprene through cuticles on her legs, which affects her reproductive system. If she is able to lay eggs before being killed by the fipronil, these immature eggs will be unable to hatch.
Any fully developed eggs which haven’t been affected by S-methoprene will be coated in it as they fall through the fur. Larvae that hatch from S-methoprene coated eggs will die soon afterwards.
Flea larvae that hatch from unaffected eggs will feed on the S-methoprene coated skin cells and hair from your pet. The flea larvae will die soon afterwards. Some flea larvae may be able to spin themselves into the pupal cocoon. But, because they’ve ingested S-methoprene, they will be unable to develop and ultimately die.
Although Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO is ideal for flea prevention, it cannot be used alone to fight an active flea infestation. It would take a long time for your pet to shed enough S-methoprene coated skin cells and hair to have a significant effect. This would be unfair on your pet and frustrating for you.
You will also need to use a household flea treatment containing an IGR, such as Beaphar FLEAtec Household Flea Spray.
Once your flea infestation has been eradicated, you can continue to protect both your pet and your home with only Beaphar FIPROtec® COMBO.
