  • How often should an on-animal flea spray be used?
  • Beaphar Flea Sprays contain natural Pyrethrum and work on the surface of the animal. The sprays are effective for around 4 days and are used mainly to kill an infestation quickly. After this period of time, a longer-acting flea treatment should be used. Beaphar has a wide variety of effective flea collars, as well as spot on treatments, to complement our flea sprays. Fleas spend most of their life-cycle not on the pet, but in the home environment. If this source of reinfestation is not effectively treated, newly-hatched fleas will still bite family members and will reinfect the pet. In this case, a good household flea spray must be used, such as Beaphar Defest or Beaphar Home Flea Spray, to treat carpets and soft furnishings in all rooms that the pet has access to.
  • How long will it take pets to dry out after using a flea spray?
  • It is normal for pets to be slightly damp immediately after spraying with the flea treatment, although the formula is designed to dry quickly. Any excess should be removed immediately with a towel, and pets kept warm until they are dry.
  • Is it ok to use a flea spray which is past its use-by date?
  • A medicine should not be used after its use by, best before or expiry date. The flea sprays are guaranteed to be safe and effective if used in accordance with their label instructions; this includes the use by date. After this time, the safety and effectiveness of the treatment may be reduced. We would always recommend disposing of the old spray responsibly and purchasing a new one to guarantee efficacy and for the welfare of the pet.
