Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser

Product reference 17396UK
The Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser uses pheromones which are clinically proven to promote feelings of reassurance, and reduce general anxiety caused by everyday stresses around the home. Contains an easy-to-use plug-in diffuser and one refill.
The Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser is a simple and effective solution to reducing problem behaviour in dogs, such as barking, furniture destruction, urinary marking, excessive licking and scratching, or general feelings of anxiety.

Beaphar CaniComfort® contains a copy of the naturally produced Dog Appeasing Pheromone, which is instantly recognisable to dogs. It is naturally produced by the bitch when she nurses her puppies, and gives a continuous and reassuring message to let dogs know that this is a safe and calm area for them to be in. This can be incredibly valuable when bringing home a new dog, helping them settle quickly into their new routine.

The easy-to-use plug in diffuser can be placed in any area of the house, and is effective for up to 30 days with continual use before needing a refill.

  • Q Is the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser safe?
  • A Our diffusers comply with the standards established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the European Norms (EN). The plastics used are self-extinguishing (class V2). All Beaphar CaniComfort® 30 Day Refill reservoirs are equipped with a child safety cap. Numerous technical tests have been carried out to ensure the correct functioning of the product. When the diffuser is in constant use, we recommend changing it every 6 months for optimum results.
  • Q My Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser is getting hot, is this normal?
  • A The liquid containing the pheromones is diffused by a ceramic plate integrated into the electric diffuser and heated to high temperature. It is therefore normal for the diffuser to be warm to the touch.
  • Q My Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser smells of burning – is it safe?
  • A The electric diffuser contains a ceramic plate that is heated to a high temperature. The deposit of impurities or dust on this plate can cause a slight odour of burning which is harmless.
  • Q What is in the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser and why does it smell?
  • A The refill reservoir of the diffuser contains a synthetic copy of the Dog Appeasing Pheromone diluted in paraffin oil. When the electric diffuser is in operation, the odour essentially comes from the paraffin oil. Paraffin is one of the components of candle wax.
  • Q The level of liquid in my Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser appears to not be going down?
  • A The refill is designed to last one month with constant use. The reduction in fluid level is very slow and hardly noticeable within one day.
  • To make sure the device is working properly:
    • Check the wick is intact and that the electric diffuser is hot
    • If you are concerned, you can mark a line on the reservoir bottle every seven days to track the level of the liquid
    • One week of use represents about a quarter of the height of the bottle
    • Check the diffuser’s operation by plugging it into another electrical socket
  • Q Does the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser have a fuse in the plug?
  • A The plug component of the diffuser does not contain a fuse. If the diffuser fails to heat, check its operation by plugging it into another electrical socket.
  • Q My Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser has leaked, can I still use it?
  • A Yes, but you need to perform the following checks:
  1. Unplug the diffuser and unscrew the refill.
  2. Thoroughly wipe the bottle and diffuser with a dry cloth.
  3. Check the integrity of the bottle, the wick holder and the electric diffuser (especially the screw thread).
  4. If the refill and the diffuser are not damaged, you can then screw the refill back on to the diffuser and reconnect.
  5. Wash your hands after handling.
  6. Always maintain and position the bottle vertically under the diffuser. Before use, refills must also be stored vertically.

  • Q Should the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser be switched off at night or when no one is home?
  • A No, the diffuser should be plugged in and left on continuously day and night for optimal effect.
  • Q Can I use the liquid from the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Spray in a Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser?
  • A No. Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Spray is alcohol based and should NEVER be used in the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser. This could pose a serious fire risk.
  • Q Can I plug a Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser into a multi-socket/multi-plug?
  • A No, the diffuser should be plugged into an outlet of its own. It should NOT be plugged into a multi-socket/multi-plug, with an adaptor or an extension lead.
  • Q I bought a Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser in another country or online and it doesn’t match with the local sockets of my country.
  • A Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffusers come with plugs that fit with the local electric systems of the country they have been bought from. They should NEVER be used with an adapter or a voltage converter as it may lead to serious safety issues. You will need to contact the seller to arrange a return or dispose of the diffuser. Please check before use that your diffuser has the appropriate plug to be used in your country
  • Q Where should I plug in the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser?
  • A If the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser is being used to reduce unwanted behaviour, plug the diffuser in the room where the behaviour is seen most often. If the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser is being used to reduce general feelings of anxiety and stress, plug the diffuser in the room where your dog spends most of their time. A single diffuser should cover an area of 50–70m². If the room is larger than this, multiple diffusers will be required. Diffusers must not be covered, placed behind a door, underneath furniture, near frequently used windows or air conditioning units.
  • Q Can I plug the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser in under furniture?
  • A No, if you plug the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser in underneath furniture the circulation of the pheromones will be impaired and reduce the efficacy.
  • Q Can the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser be used simultaneously with an air-conditioner?
  • A To prevent Beaphar CaniComfort® pheromones from being transported outside your home and therefore no longer being useful, be sure to connect the diffuser away from air conditioning units, air extractors or air vents.
  • Q Can the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser be used while leaving the windows open?
  • A Usage with open windows and doors may result in diffusion at a faster rate, meaning the product may not last the full expected 30 days. The volume of pheromones remaining in the room is likely to be reduced as much will be lost out of the window. This means the diffuser may not produce the desired calming effect on your dog. In such a case, a different diffuser location should be considered within the house, targeting the area where your dog spends most of their time.
  • Q Can the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser be used if you are asthmatic?
  • A The current state of knowledge is that the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser does not cause respiratory difficulty in people with asthma. However, if you find that your symptoms are more noticeable when using your diffuser, we recommend using Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Spray instead.
  • Q Is the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser safe to use if you are pregnant?
  • A There is no interaction between people and the pheromones in Beaphar CaniComfort®, so it is safe to use. It is also safe to use around pregnant animals.
  • Q Can the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser be used in the same room as a plug-in air freshener?
  • A Yes, there is no interaction between the two. Your dog will still be able to distinguish the pheromones.
  • Q Can the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser and Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Spray be used in the same room?
  • A Yes. In multi-pet households, the use of the diffuser will help to reduce the general level of stress and help your dog feel at ease. Meanwhile the spray can be applied to specific areas in the room where problem behaviour is occurring.
  • Q Will Beaphar CaniComfort® have any effect on other pets?
  • A Beaphar CaniComfort® contains a synthetic copy of the Dog Appeasing Pheromone which is specific to dogs and will not affect other species.
  • Q Can multiple pheromone products for different species be used in the same room?
  • A Pheromones are specific each target species, meaning dogs can’t interpret feline pheromones and cats can’t interpret canine pheromones. Each species will be able to identify the relevant pheromones with no interaction from the other product.
  • Q Can the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser be used in a room where there are caged birds?
  • A The current state of knowledge is that the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser is harmless to birds. However, some species have a very sensitive respiratory system. As a precaution, plug in your Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser in a different room to your bird cage.
  • Q How long does it take for the pheromones in the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser to diffuse throughout the room?
  • A After 24 hours, the pheromones will have diffused throughout the room where you have connected the diffuser. However, it can take up to one week to see a difference in your dog’s behaviour.
  • Q Can the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser be used in a room with an aquarium?
  • A Yes, the pheromones in the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser are harmless to fish.
  • Q How long does it take to see the effect of the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser?
  • A The effects of the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser on the behaviour of your dog usually appear during the first week of use. However, each dog is unique and the first signs of improvement can appear later, depending on how sensitive your dog is to pheromones and changes in their environment. We recommend using the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser for at least a month to fully appreciate the effect of this product.
  • Q Can the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser be taken on a plane?
  • A DO NOT carry refills by plane; pressure variations during flights may cause fluid leaks. The liquid inside the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser is highly flammable and unsuitable to be carried by plane.
  • Q How long should I use the Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser for?
  • A We recommend using the product for at least a month without interruption to ensure the best possible effect on the behaviour of your dog. Beaphar CaniComfort® Calming Diffuser should be used continuously.
  • Q What should I do if my dog’s behavioural problem is not solved after one month?
  • A There are several possible reasons that your dog's behaviour may not have improved after one month of using the product.
  • If the organ that identifies pheromones (Jacobson's organ, also called vomeronasal organ) is inflamed, your dog may temporarily be unable to identify pheromones.
  • It is also possible that your dog's behaviour is not related to stress. Lack of appetite, excessive licking or aggression, for example, may be symptoms of physiological or organic diseases. If in doubt, consult a vet.
  • Make sure your dog really has the ability to change their behaviour. For example, urination in inappropriate places may be due to the inability for your dog to frequently access a suitable space to urinate, or territorial scent marking due to a rival dog in the area frequently marking their territory.
  • Similarly, excessive barking could be due to inadequate stimulation and a lack of activity causing boredom.
